Dunbeath River Walk

Neil Gunn’s “Highland River”
An interesting northern strath rich inwildlife and archeology.

Meet:
10:00 Lidl carpark
11:00 Dunbeath River carpark
Under the bridge, beside the mill

Dunbeath River MapYou will need:

Walking shoes or boots (Good path but overgrown in places),
Warm waterproof clothing,

Lunch,

Possibly midget protection, although with the wind forecast they will possibly not be a problem
Weather:
Showery, windy & cooler than recent days.
As the forecast is not very good it is essential that you let us know if you are coming so that we can contact you if there are last minute changes.

Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve

Britain’s oldest National Nature Reserve

Visit Victoria Falls (not that one; our local one)

You’ll need:
Walking boots, rainwear, midge protection, lunch

We will be looking at the beasties found in a field with old tree stumps. As is usual with TDFC summer events there will tea, coffee & some eats! As always for this type of event please let me know if you are coming. There is a possibility of midges! Or, wet weather.

Assemble at Tain Lidl carpark at 09:00
Arrive at Rassal at about 11:00
Prepare for weather appropriately
AND -for midges.

Friday, pm to Sunday, noon

Transit of Mercury
Monday, 9th May 2016

If you miss this one there will be a partial transit visible in the British Isles on 11th November 2019 but the next full transit doesn’t occur until 7th May 2049!

This is not a normal field trip.

Russell will have a telescope set up for projection at his house throughout the day so that TDFC members can drop in.

Russell’s house is Cartomie, Edderton, IV19 1LB (NH 709 858)

I will have a telescope set up for projection as well from mid afternoon.
Again you are welcome to drop in.
My house is 3,Springfield, Morangie Road, Tain, IV19 1HR (NH 775 824)

Eclipse glasses will be available at both places for direct viewing.

PLEASE REMEMBER YOU SHOULD NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN EITHER THROUGH BINOCULARS OR WITH THE NAKED EYE – YOU COULD PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOU EYES

The timing (BST) of the main events in the transect are:

12:12 – First contact

15:56 – Mid transect

19:40 – Transect ends
