Drew was a founder member of TDFC although due to illness he had not attended recently.
His erudition and dry humour will be sadly missed.

I’ve just heard the sad news about drew turnbull. I saw him at the start of last year in tesco’s of all places and wanted to talk to him but was too unsure about what to say! I was a pupil of his in TRA in 1984/5 and thought he was a fabulous teacher, one who really inspired me to enjoy English as a language. I really regret not telling him this, and now I can’t! No other teacher was like him, irreplaceable! He’ll be missed.
This is a wonderful tribute to my dad. I would like to thank David for his lovely words at my dad’s service and also for the brilliant photos. I know dad will be missed by a lot of people.xxx
So sad to hear about the loss of Dr Turnbull, he was a wonderful teacher and a lovely man. My thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time xXx
